How Does Blood Flow Through The Body?

Blood is the body fluid of the human body, which is continuously in flow. The Heart pumps this fluid to all parts of the body where it supplies every single cell with oxygen and nutrients. Blood Pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries. When the blood pressure remains in a normal range i.e. 120/80, it symbolizes a normal and healthy condition of our body.

However, sometimes this pressure rises for some reasons like high cholesterol levels in body. High blood pressure is a serious condition, which can result in coronary heart diseases, heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure.

You May Not Know You Have It

This condition does not have any symptoms one can have high blood pressure for a long period without knowing about it. Whereas, there are some chemicals in the human body that help to reduce high blood pressure, CoQ10 is one of those. Recently, researchers have been widely studying the relation of CoQ10 and blood pressure.

What Is CoQ10?

CoQ10 is a naturally occurring vitamin like chemical in the human body. It's present in every single cell where it helps in the production of an energy rich compound called ATP. Recent studies prove that this chemical is helpful in the treatment of various diseases, these studies also shows the relation of CoQ10 and blood pressure and its effect in lowering it.

A study was done to check the effect of CoQ10 in treatment of blood pressure. Total number of participants in this study was 109; all of the subjects were patients in a private cardiac clinic. The dosage of CoQ10 was added to their existing antihypertensive drugs.

At the end of the study, about 51% of the patients had shown improvement in their systolic and diastolic blood pressure (Langsjeon, Williis, & Folkers, 1994).

Another Study

Our body needs various nutrients to work in a balanced way; much of these nutrients come naturally from our diet. Many of these nutrients also help in lowering blood pressure; CoQ10 is one of them. In a different study, subjects were given a number of different dietary supplements. These supplements included coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), garlic, fish oil, hawthorn, olive oil, vitamin C, vitamin E, skullcap, barberry, betel nut, bishop's weed, bitter melon, cat's claw, celery and various others. The study reinforced the previous findings that CoQ10 helps in the treatment of hypertension, thus establishing the relationship between CoQ10 and blood pressure more strongly (Wilburm, King, Rockhold, & Wafford, 2004).

Give Your Body What It's Thirsty For

As it travels through the body, high blood pressure can damage the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other parts of body. If the blood pressure is too high, seeking treatment is the only resort left for the patient.

Blood pressure usually tend to rise with age however, following a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk to a minimum. Other than its natural sources (oily fish, organ meat, and whole grains), CoQ10 is also available in the form of supplements and is safe to take. This chemical is added in the routine medication of heart patients but if you want to use this chemical for a healthy heart, consult your doctor as well.

Hypertension is a serious condition; you've made understanding it a little easier. The 1994 study noted in the hub didn't specify by how much 51 percent of the participants' blood pressure actually lowered after taking the CoQ10 supplements. Are there more recent studies with larger groups of participants that demonstrated these same results?
